Reports & Overview
Overview is your dashboard: net worth, Ready to Assign, recent activity, and a quick sense of health.
Reports go deeper: spending by category, income versus spend, savings rate, and net worth over time. Use them to spot patterns — not to micromanage every day.
How the headline figures are calculated
The summary at the top of Reports shows average monthly spend and income for the months in your selected period (by default the incomplete current month is left out so it does not dilute averages). When you narrow the Envelopes filter, it also shows average assigned and average activity for the envelopes still included.
- Average monthly spend — total spending in the range ÷ number of months.
- Average monthly income — total income in the range ÷ number of months. The line under it shows money saved on average (income − spend, averaged over the months) and what share of income that is.
- Average assigned (filter active) — mean monthly assignment for the included envelope set.
- Average activity (filter active) — mean monthly spend magnitude for the included envelope set (matches Assign's Activity column).
Income is money categorised to Ready to Assign (the system Inflow envelope) that crosses into the budget. Refunds on spending envelopes are not income — they reduce spend instead.
Spend is money on an on-budget account assigned to a non-income envelope (purchases raise it; refunds on those envelopes lower it), plus loan repayments that are categorised to an envelope. Paying a credit card from a cash account does not count again — the card purchase already did. Moves between on-budget accounts do not count. Transfers to a tracking account (shares, super, and similar) are not spend.
Note: an uncategorised transfer from an on-budget account to an off-budget account (a loan or a tracking account) is not counted as spend. Until you categorise a loan repayment, it will not reduce average monthly spend or average monthly savings. Tracking transfers stay out of spend even when categorised.
